In the world of interior design, my superpower is this: translating who you are—your quirks, your chaos, your quiet moments—into a space that feels not only exquisitely designed, but unmistakably you. Interiors that are layered with thoughtful textures, clever layouts, and colour stories that represent who you are and how you want to live at home.

Because your home shouldn’t look like everyone else’s. It should reflect you—your lifestyle, your needs, your desires. It should function beautifully and feel like a hug when you walk in the door. That’s where I come in.

I’m Lauren Li, founding director of Sisällä, a Melbourne-based interior design studio with a Scandinavian soul and an Australian heart.

Sisällä—meaning “inside” in Finnish—is a nod to my heritage and my enduring love for interiors that blend elegance with everyday ease. Our work is all about layered, luxurious spaces grounded in purpose, soul and the unique stories of the people who live in them.

When I’m not designing, you’ll find me mentoring emerging and established designers through The Design Society and specialist software courses—because I believe in lifting as we climb.

I wrote a couple of books too: The New French Look (2023) and Beachside Modern (2024). Because it turns out I have a lot to say about interior design too.

Sisalla Interior Design offers a full-service approach to interior design, furniture selection, and styling.

I will meet with you and learn about what you’re looking for. I might ask a few questions because I want to hear your ideas and learn about who lives in the property and how you want to live at home.

I work with a trusted team of consultants from engineers, building designers, architects and contractors to help bring your vision to life. So it’s best to start talking early in your project.

Some of our projects are complete knock-down and rebuilds, internal renovations and kitchen projects. Whilst others are furniture and art curation.

For those not quite ready to begin a full project—or currently in the midst of one—we’re now offering 1:1 video consultations or in-person meetings to provide tailored advice and expert guidance.
