EVER WISH ALL YOUR BUSINESS AND MARKETING QUESTIONS COULD BE ANSWERED?

are you ready to level up your interior design business?

Are you wondering how to attract FABULOUS clients and work on creatively satisfying projects?

Ever scrolled through Insta, gazing longingly at other designers and wondering, "How the heck do they snag such amazing clients?"

Well, my friend, the secret sauce is all about clever, super intentional MARKETING.

If it's high time to whip your marketing strategies into shape, then gather 'round, because I've got a spot for you in a crew of fellow design aficionados.

Intrigued? Read on.

Allow me to introduce you to The Design Society – the ultimate destination for learning all those nifty tricks they never taught you back in design school.

Our 'Marketing Your Interior Design Business' program is your golden ticket to a twelve-week coaching journey that'll have you waltzing into better client territory by putting your work right in front of the folks who truly appreciate it.

Oh, and let's get one thing straight – I'm not talking about obsessively counting followers and chasing likes on Instagram, because #AintNobodyGotTimeForThat.

More creativity, more high-value clients with healthier budgets, less overwhelm and a lot more profitable. All of this is achievable through clever, impactful marketing.

Marketing for your Interior Design Business is a twelve-week coaching program designed to help you work with better clients.

Doors are now OPEN for ‘Marketing’ Course

1. Are you overwhelmed and working on waaay too many small ‘bitsy’ projects?

2. Do you feel like you should be charging more and becoming more profitable?

3. Are you wondering where all of those AMAZING clients are that ‘other’ designers work with?

4. Do you wish that you had better projects that you could photograph at the end of the project?

5. Have you ever felt a little resentment because you’re working your butt off and the client never seems to be happy?

You are not alone!

Attracting great clients is no accident. Getting intentional on what kinds of clients that you want to work with takes work.

I’ve helped so many designers through my courses on how to market your interior design business over the years and I’d love to help you too.

It is a thrill to see their work published and their practice build credibility.

And then they tell me that they are working on fabulous projects and charging fees higher than they ever have before.

My projects are published in Vogue Living, Elle Decoration UK, Real Living etc.

I have done it and I’m showing you the steps so that you can too.

Getting published builds credibility with clients that you haven’t even met yet. They dig it! (and this = respect as a professional ‘real’ designer)

When magazines, blogs or someone that they respect recognises your work, it earns you that ‘trust me’ factor that is essential to a successful project. It just does.

The media world is mysterious but there are some key steps that will make your chances of getting published successful. (hint, they always need content so deliver the right thing to the right publication).

Don’t just take it from me. We speak to magazine editors and it is fascinating hearing from their perspective.

We deep dive into Branding, Emails, Websites, SEO, Instagram, Brand Collaborations, Photography and Stylists, Blogs, Public Relations and more! Phew, it’s a lot. There is SO much good info to share.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution because firstly, you need to get to know your favorite client.

That’s why there’s room for us all here - our favorite clients are all different.

Marketing your Interior Design Business is a course we are running inside TDS (The Design Society), which means you are not doing this alone; you join our community too. It is not like regular courses; let me explain…

The Design Society gives you the education and coaching from top experts alongside peer-to-peer accountability groups so you can go from ‘they didn’t teach me this is design school’ to nailing it and having your own Elle Woods moment ‘What? Like, is it hard?’.

If you have two hours per week, then we can help!

Transform your business and enrich your life.

We meet online each Friday at 11am (Melb/Syd time) to unpack a topic. I share the steps that I’ve taken to grow my business and bring in the experts.

  • Branding (it’s much, much more than a logo)

  • Email list

  • Public Relations

  • Instagram

  • Pinterest

  • Website

  • SEO (I share who helped me, see you up there ranking on google beside me!)

  • Working with a photographer and stylist

  • Brand collaborations

  • Getting Published

  • Writing pitches

  • and more!

Oh, and did I mention we have some of the most recognised, revered and celebrated guest speakers in The Design Society? You won’t find a better group of experts to help you across every aspect of your business and inspire you! They are truly AMAZING!

I KNOW that you are a great designer.

If only your clients would allow you to be more creative and go ‘all in’ with the design.

Instead they do one room here and there. It’s ‘bitsy’ so you can never photograph your projects. And so the cycle continues…

Word of mouth is good and all, but not if their friends also have miniature budgets and their aesthetics don’t align. You DO NOT want to be known as that ‘great designer that is cheap’.

Trust me, your wheels will be spinning so fast with so many budget clients that you’ll find burnout is around the corner. #beentheredonethat

Learning how to get your work in front of the RIGHT clients is key. After all, NOTHING shapes our business more than the clients that we choose to take on.

I know that the whole idea of ‘marketing’ just seems so overwhelming, plus we’re not in the business of marketing, we just want to design.

I hear you and I’m here to help.

Amber Lewis

We are honored to talk to Amber inside The Design Society and get a glimpse into what it it takes to run a hugely successful design practice. So I’m not going to introduce Amber Lewis because you’re already all over her instagram, books, shoppe, furniture and rug lines etc, etc! Amber graciously shares the process of her install days and it’s an incredibly rare insight into just how she does it all. You just don’t get this type of mentoring anywhere else!

Deborah Bibby

Deborah has 20+ years experience leading teams across print, product and digital in the interior design and fashion space. The founding editor-in-chief of award-winning interior magazine and lifestyle brand real living. Deborah conceived, launched and hosted the School of real living, the event component of the real living brand.

Paul Hecker

We met with Paul Hecker to discuss Design Concepts and this session just keeps on giving. We were overwhelmingly inspired and grateful to Paul for graciously sharing just how Hecker Guthrie continues to be the leader in Australian Interior Design. What do they present to clients, how do they do it and what it all looks like, up close. This is SUCH a rare insight delivered with enthusiasm and humour.

Colin King

As the go-to interiors stylist for the world’s leading brands and publications, Colin King has defined the style of modern American design. We are thrilled to talk to Colin inside TDS. We found that not only is he extremely talented, he is kind, warm and humble. With the founding of Colin King Studio, his successful foray into interior styling, and now product design. We are captivated.

Decus

If you’re a solo designer, it’s not often that you get to see how a top-tier interior design practice works. Alexandra Donohoe Church shares the inner-workings of how they manage one of their widely-recognised projects. The concept, client feedback, documentation and even shop drawings. If this is your love-language, then you’re one of us. It was truly an incredibly generous insight and Alexandra is an incredible designer.

Athena Calderone

Talking to Athena Calderone is just as you imagine. She is innately stylish yet still warm and generous with sharing her knowledge. We were given an insight into her furniture collection before it was launched and she hinted at what was to come - she has A LOT going on! Her multidisciplinary creative work spans design and entertaining, she is an author, designer, influential creator and so many things. So inspiring.

Karen McCartney

Karen McCartney is best known for her work in the world of interiors, architecture and design across print and digital media (editing marie claire lifestyle and Inside Out magazines) and more recently as the editorial director of Temple & Webster, driving their award-winning blog. Karen brings a breadth of editorial expertise to The Design Society.

Jess Villela

Jess is a firm favorite inside The Design Society. She is based in San Diego and we go back a few years now as we met in a creative group. I just knew that we would all just click inside TDS. She understands what it takes to sell in a way that feels great AND changes the world. These skills are transferable across platforms, and they give YOU the power to gain financial freedom through your business.

Fiona Killackey

Fiona joined us to talk about money mapping and what an eye-opening session it was. She has almost two decades experience working with large and small brands. Fiona leads My Daily Business Coach, a consultancy company that helps business owners understand, create, analyse and improve their marketing, branding, content and overall business strategies.

Not only do you go through the live Marketing course (which is all recorded if you can’t join live), you have access to a selection of our favorite past experts, as above.

Draw on their knowledge, implement their tips right away or just get your design mojo back.

This is so valuable on it’s own, they are incredible.

We got you!

If you are a solopreneur, I see you all alone out there! You know how lonely it can be. Your family ask when are you going to get a ‘real job’ and your friends make plans for the weekend and you ask ‘sorry, what is a weekend?’ You know that connecting with other designers that ‘get it’ is priceless. The Design Socialites are an amazing group of dedicated designers and we can’t wait to meet you!

Learn together

This isn’t like other courses that you sign up for and never actually do. We meet bi-weekly to cover the course content (the alternating week is group coaching) and there are downloads, real-life examples of work and samples pitches to magazines and ANYTHING else you want to see, I am sharing it with you. I take you inside how I manage my marketing and also into a photoshoot day. And if you can’t join the live session, it is all recorded and there in writing, if you prefer to skim through notes. I can’t say I’ve seen any other course like it.

Let’s work it out

We ask questions, share what’s happening in our week, basically talk shop. It’s a safe space (no facebook algorithms) to chat amongst friends. We put our experiences together to help you out with a current situation. We’re also here to celebrate your wins; you project published in the mags, award nominations, new branding or just landing that project that you really wanted.

An extensive video library

The Design Society has been going for over 18 months and wow, we have hundreds of hours of business insights from leaders in their area; branding, SEO, Email marketing, getting published, confidence coaches, money mindset etc. Let’s not forget that sometimes we want to feel inspired too, so we invited Athena Calderone of Eye-Swoon and world renowned stylist Colin King to chat with, amongst others. It’s a lot, and I think you’ll love it. Oh, and I’m here anytime with my 20 years of design experience, you can send me a DM or ask the group. I’m here for you.

“I can’t even begin to describe how helpful this inspiring community has been to my day to day.”

I often find myself replaying some sessions as background noise while I work away and love feeling like I’m sitting in an office with like-minded creatives.”

Lauren Li, Founder of Sisällä Interior Design, The Design Society & The Apartment

Hey there, fellow design enthusiasts! So, here's the thing – I'm basically a design addict. Interior design is my jam, and I'm all about talking, writing, and living and breathing design.

You know what truly gets me fired up? Empowering fellow women to embrace their creative side, score amazing projects, get their work out there, and yes, charge what they're worth for sharing their brilliant design talents with clients. That's the kind of magic I want to spread.

So, I had this lightbulb moment and created The Design Society, a place where we can all come together and share knowledge, lift each other up.

Now, let me spill the beans on Sisalla – it's not just a hobby; it's our family business. My husband and I wear multiple hats around here – he's the CEO, CFO, and the procurement guru. And guess what? We're one of those rare couples who actually LOVE working together. We pinch ourselves every day, grateful for the opportunity to tackle stunning projects, all while doing school drop-offs and juggling a baby.

Sisällä was born back in 2012, right when I had my first baby (whoever said I'd have tons of free time was clearly kidding!). We're proudly Melbourne-based, representing Aussie design vibes.

Now, if you're curious about my design street cred, I've got over 20 years of experience under my belt – residential, retail, commercial, you name it. I hold a Bachelor of Design in Interior Design (with Honours) from Swinburne and a Diploma of Arts in Interior Design & Decoration from RMIT.

Oh, and here's a little flex for you – Sisällä's projects have been showered with awards, including the prestigious Australian Interior Design Awards. We've even been lucky enough to snag a spot as a five-time finalist in House & Garden's Top 50 Rooms.

I've got this burning desire to share my passions, hoping we can collectively elevate the interior design industry and create some seriously stunning spaces for our clients.

And if you've read this far – seriously, THANK YOU!

Lauren

“The Design Society provides helpful and actionable guidance.”

Even as someone who has been in the interior industry for many years, there are always things you can improve in your business from process to strategy.
