TDS Designer in the Spotlight: Angie Rogers

Angie Rogers is a woman of many talents. Not that you would know as she isn’t one to really talk about herself. She’s more about how she can help others; gosh her clients are lucky to find her.

She’s not scrolling on insta and worried about ‘likes’ instead you’ll find her hard at work on client projects. Angie’s clients talk to their friends about the amazing work she does and referrals keep her very busy in the Brisbane area. No need to shout about it from the rooftops, there is a quiet confidence here that goes to show the power of doing great work can lead to referrals.

Her design aesthetic is fresh with natural timbers and wicker combined with gorgeous fabrics- it’s totally suited to the relaxed Queensland lifestyle.

I was surprised to learn that Angie also specializes in window treatments and soft furnishings- surprised because we’d been talking for a while, and she never mentioned it. To be honest, there aren’t many interior designers that can confidently measure a window these days (I won’t go near a window!), it takes a lot of experience and it’s such a bonus for her clients.

Catch-ups with Angie always get progressively more and more giggly (could that be the wine?!) She is very funny! I can see that her clients have a lot of fun working together with Angie to create a beautiful comfortable home.

Angie is an original ‘design socialite’ having joined The Design Society from the beginning and we are excited to see more of her gorgeous projects.

Q1. Do you have a dream project you’d love to work on one day?

I would love to work on a beautiful project out in the country, I am a country girl at heart and love the peace and tranquility a property on acreage can offer. A gorgeous rural retreat that I am involved with from design concept to full styling and install. To be working with a fabulous client who is happy to hand over the reins for everything and give me full design scope and an amazing furniture and styling budget. I’m not asking for much!

Q2. Have you always been an interior designer? What has your journey to running Angie Rogers Interiors

No, I haven’t always been an interior designer. After graduating year 12 (a very long time ago) I went to hotel management school then onto a 20-year career working in hotels all over the world. I ended up focusing on events and after a 7-year stint in London returned home eventually running my own wedding & event planning business in Brisbane. An events career is tough with a young family and I wanted something to fill creative void and I had some much joy renovating my own homes over the years, I decided to pursue a career in Interior Design, that was 10 years ago. 5 years working for a design and now 5 years out on my own.

Q3. Do you have any advice for someone thinking of making the switch in career?

I think that if do something that brings you joys and lights you up every day no matter what that job is you’ll be successful at it. There are so many skills from other career paths that can be so useful in Interior Design. For example, a career in hotel and events management taught me the value of organization, project management and the skill of juggling multiple tasks at once while under massive pressure. Working in hotels taught me how to deal all different types of people and scenarios. How to really listen with empathy and deal with complaints and that having a smile on your face can diffuse even the trickiest situation!

Q4. You’ve recently rebranded, what lead that decision?

If I am honest the rebranding signals a huge confidence growth and big step for me. I felt now was the right time to stand in my own name. Most of my clients will say to their friends ‘oh you need Angie’ so I figured there was a value to my name and time to capitalize on it. Up until this point I will admit that I have hidden behind ‘Interior Tailor Co’ as I didn’t think I was quite good enough to put my name on an interior design business.

Q.5 Is working as an interior designer what you imagined?

Yes, it has been wonderful career choice, everything I imagined and so much more. It has allowed me to work for myself, be creative and be here for my family. I feel like 10 years in and I am only just getting started. With two kids almost graduating school I have so much more time and energy to devote to designing in coming years. But on the business side there is so much to learn about actually the running the business.....you are never quite prepared for how much you need to do and always learning....enter the The Design Society...truely an amazing resource!

Q6. What’s in store for Angie Rogers Interiors in 2023?

I have a couple of projects wrapping from last year and I am looking forward to photographing and sharing these. I have two full house renovations starting in the next couple of months, one that we started working on with the clients 2 years ago so super excited to finally start designing. I would like to focus on growing my team and really streamline my client’s experience. I am also 2 manicures in to having the best nails of my life so keeping that promise to find time to do nice things for myself.

Q7. Was there something in particular that you wanted to work on for your business when you joined TDS?

I joined TDC as it really filled that gap of not being in a work environment/office where you can bounce things off other team members. To be able to share and gain insight on how other work has been so invaluable. To really get my ‘process’ in order and stop chasing my tail on projects. After all you don’t know what you don’t know and now with TDS I know so much more.
